Director of Health Systems

Posted: Tue, 18/09/2007 - 12:26pm

The Director of Health Systems will play a pivotal role in developing the IRC strategy and capacity in post-conflict health system development. While IRC initiates new programs in response to humanitarian emergencies, we recognize that the context of humanitarian work has evolved significantly over the past decade. Currently 30% of IRC health programs are implemented in post-conflict settings, while a further 63% are in protracted conflicts. IRC is committed to working with communities and governments to develop functioning health systems following conflict. This involves working at each level of the health system – community, facility, district health offices, regional health offices, and, on occasion, with central Ministries of Health. The Director of Health Programs will lead the development of an IRC approach to health system development that considers technical, managerial, financial, and policy issues. The Director will also be responsible for technical support to IRC’s largest health program – the Democratic Republic of Congo.
