Training and Product Development Specialist

A financial institution servicing the micro and small business sector in Cameroon with a banking license. This new financial institution is created as a joint-venture between Accion Investments and Ecobank Cameroon with the technical assistance support of ACCION International.
Working under a contract with ACCION International, and as part of an international technical assistance team, the incumbent will hold the Product Development and Training Specialist position. In this position under the guidance of the Chief Commercial Officer and in close collaboration with the Head of the Department of Human Resources & Administration the incumbent will have the responsibility of formulating, directing and implementing training policies and procedures related to the selection, hiring and training of staff and loan officers in particular. The Product Development and Training Specialist will also play a key role in the development and roll out of new financial product. It will be his/her responsibility to contribute to the development of a high level of staff productivity and develop a positive corporate culture. S/he is expected to provide leadership to the training and human resources development area within the organization. This institution contemplates rapid scale-up, which will place heavy demands on the training department to train as quickly as possible and to institutionalize the training process from the beginning.

Overview of Global Development Program:
The goal of the Global Development Program is to increase opportunities for poor people to lift themselves out of poverty and hunger in the developing world. We are supporting new ways to help poor farmers increase their productivity and sell their crops, we are working to make a wide range of financial services products available to the poor, and we are seeking help to improve people’s lives by connecting them to a world of information through increased, no-cost access to computers and the Internet in their public libraries.
Summary:
The Senior Program Officer will help develop and implement a strategy for foundation giving to promote access to financial services for the poor in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He/she will identify opportunities for and manage a grant-making portfolio of high-impact grants in order to promote access to high quality lending, savings, insurance, and remittances products for poor households. The Senior Program Officer will be responsible for monitoring grants and other programmatic investments to ensure this portfolio helps reduce poverty and inequity throughout the developing world.
The Senior Program Officer should be comfortable operating at a very high level on a broad range of international development and poverty reduction issues and demonstrate the ability to create, manage, and achieve results related to foundation investment and advocacy opportunities.

Position summary: Communications Intern needed to assist members of the Communications team. Work will include the maintenance of social networking web sites, supporting the web master in maintaining and updating the ACCION website(s), and assisting in managing the ACCION online community. Other tasks may include gathering information pertinent to ACCION and the microfinance industry, as well as general administrative support for the Communications Department.
This is a great opportunity to learn about microenterprise development, e-marketing, web site maintenance, and general communications in a friendly, professional, multicultural environment.
Hours per week: Flexible, 4-5 days/week preferred
Start date: September-December with possible extension into 2008
