About EngenderHealth and The ACQUIRE Project
EngenderHealth is the leading international family planning and reproductive health non-governmental-organization. For almost 65 years, in close collaboration with local governments and organizations, and international partners, EngenderHealth has improved the health and well-being of millions of people in the world’s poorest communities. In 40 countries throughout the developing world, we provide training, introduce new technologies and do advocacy to improve quality of health care and promote gender equity.
The ACQUIRE Project is managed by EngenderHealth, in partnership with ADRA, CARE, IntraHealth International, Meridian Group International, and SWAA. The project is designed to increase access to and use of quality reproductive health and family planning services.
Job Summary
The Program Associate (PA) – Gender works with the Technical Advisor (TA) for Underserved Populations and other ACQUIRE staff to assist the technical advisor to implement the Gender Initiative funded by PEPFAR, which aims to strengthen male engagement activities within HIV/AIDS programs in Namibia, Tanzania, Mozambique and Ethiopia.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities
* Provide support to the Technical Advisor and the Director of the Men as Partners Team to implement the Gender Initiative, which will include:
o Assisting with the design and implementation of a strategic planning process in Namibia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Mozambique
o Assisting with the design and implementation of the technical assistance plan in Namibia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Mozambique
o Assisting in the development and production of curricula and training materials for the Initiative
o Writing up the results of the needs assessment and strategic planning
o Assisting with monitoring and evaluation as needed
o Monitoring in-country activities as needed
o Developing subagreements and overseeing other logistical and administrative issues related to the Gender Initiative
* Participate in the identification of lessons learned and potential best practices related to engaging men, documentation and dissemination of best practices, and development of strategies to replicate, and/or adapt them;
* Travel up to 30% of the time for field-based technical assistance and/or global leadership activities
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certifications
* Graduate degree in public health or a related field;
* 2-3 years’ experience in public health or related field, preferably in gender, male involvement and/or HIV;
* Experience with training and curriculum development
* Experience working in diverse cultural settings and sensitivity to local contexts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of gender and male involvement programming
* Knowledge of HIV and other reproductive health issues
* Excellent writing skills
* Excellent organizational skills
* Strong skills in MS Office applications
* Knowledge of RH programming desirable
* Library and database research skills desirable
* Experience working in/with developing countries desirable
* Knowledge of health communications strategies desirable
* English fluency required; Knowledge of Portuguese desirable
