Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading non-sectarian non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Our staff and volunteers provide shelter, medical and public health assistance, education, training and income-generating programs for refugees in nearly 30 countries. We also help refugees resettle in the United States. Our 19 offices across the country ensure new arrivals have food, shelter and clothing. And we work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency through English language classes, job training and placement services and community participation activities. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Within a mentoring relationship, the Health Unit (HU) Intern will work directly with the Health Unit’s (Senior Technical Advisors and Program Managers). The intern will learn the internal workings of a program department within an international humanitarian agency. He/she will work on current and on-going initiatives and will directly assist the health unit staff with a range of managerial, administrative and some technical functions in New York. This is a 3-6 month unpaid internship. Interns will receive a stipend of up to a maximum of $25.00/day for any actual travel and meal related expenses incurred.
