Position Description
The USAID funded program will support the Government of Burundi’s efforts through the implementation of the National Plan for Health Development (PNDS in French) to improve maternal and child health interventions at the national, provincial and local levels. This Maternal and Child Health Program aims to assist the Ministry of Health to improve the quality of the package of basic health services in two provinces, Kayanza and Muyinga, to build the capacity of health center staff to address those diseases causing the greatest morbidity and mortality, to build the capacity of national, provincial and district authorities to collect, analyze, disseminate, and act on health information data, and to provide targeted communities with the knowledge and skills to identify, prevent, and address key maternal and child health risks. It will also assist the government to decentralize the health sector into a district model of Health Centers reporting to a district hospital.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Health Information Systems Specialist is responsible for providing TA to strengthen provincial and facility HIS and support in all matters related to management information systems for the needs of the program, including in the use of information technology and computer related needs. S/he is responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of a health care management information system (HMIS). S/he works with the relevant program staff to provide HMIS support for the project operations and management related to implementation of the USAID contract, including database design or adaptation to generate all required monitoring information and reports, and using IT for the communication and management needs of the Burundi office.
