Position Description
This position is part of the Programs team. The Local Language Publishing (LLP) GPO is
responsible for providing guidance and expertise to Regional teams and local in-country teams
on managing our local language publishing programs. The position will report directly to the
Global Program Director.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties & Responsibilities

In collaboration with Regional Offices and Country Directors, help create and analyze annual
program goals and budgets for their country's LLP Program, ensuring alignment with
organizational strategies and priorities
-
Liaise with Regional Program Officers and Country Office Program Officers to insure effective
management of programs and successful achievement of annual goals
-
Research and recommend improvements to our LLP program to more efficiently and effectively
manage the programs in each country where they run
-
Stay informed about research and trends in the area of children's literature and
bi-lingual/multi-lingual children's book publishing. Recommend improvements to our programs
accordingly
-
Maintain and annually update a Standard English version of our Room to Read Local Language
Publishing Operations Manual.

Write guidelines for standard practices, policies and specifications to be followed in all
local language publishing projects

Manage and implement editing system in relation to LLP program to include: LLP stories in
English, author/illustrator/story summaries in English, program anecdotes and best practice
case studies from in-country teams.

Assist in designing and implementing the monitoring and evaluation system for the LLP Program
-
Work with program teams to codify best practices for Room to Read's LLP Program so that they
can be shared across existing countries of operation and rolled out in new ones

Assist with launching the LLP Program in Room to Read countries that want to add them and work
together with in-country teams to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
-
Assist with capacity building of new Program Officers in new Room to Read countries
-
Plan and coordinate conferences and trainings for in-country Local Language Publishing Program
Officers, which includes developing training materials and designing future workshops.

Help provide information for foundation, corporate and individual reporting requirements,
which includes tracking, editing and providing feedback on project reports written by
in-country staff

Support and inform Global Office teams, Regional Offices, and Country Offices on programmatic
information

Travel regularly throughout the year to the countries in which we operate assisting with
capacity building and acting as technical assistance if needed

Network with other non-profits running similar programs to find areas of collaboration and
knowledge sharing

Represent Room to Read in different forums (within the organization and externally) to educate
about our programs and advocate for them with a particular focus on the LLP program
-
Write summaries of unique program strengths and innovations for award submissions
-
Maintain and update projects database in relation to LLP Program
-
Other tasks in relation to LLP program as needed
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor's degree
-
A minimum of seven years of professional experience
-
Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of tasks
-
Experience in developing and implementing programmatic improvements
-
Strong editorial skills, with a demonstrated eye for visual design
-
Prior experience working in the children's publishing industry
-
Understanding of bilingual issues
-
Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
-
Ability and desire to travel frequently internationally
-
Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on
maintaining high quality work and low overhead
-
Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
-
Proven track record of achieving results
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
-
Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
-
Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided
Preferred

A master's degree in a related field of study
-
Prior experience living and/or working in a developing country
