Position Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the agency

This position is with the Department of Health and Human Services,
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for
Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Global Immunization Division,
New York City, New York.
Serves as a recognized expert providing technical consultation and
scientific advice to national and international health related
agencies and organizations on epidemiology and surveillance of
vaccine preventable diseases, with a special emphasis on the
eradication and control of vaccine preventable diseases.
Responsibilities and Duties
Serves as the vaccine preventable diseases technical and
scientific liaison between National Immunization Program and Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization
(WHO) in developing operational policies and plans for enhanced
surveillance vaccine preventable diseases, and for rapid detection
of and secondary response to disease outbreaks throughout their
assigned country and region. Provides expert consultation
and technical assistance and advice to international agencies and
organizations on epidemiology and surveillance of vaccine
preventable diseases and their control strategies. Serves as
principal advisor to the Branch Chief, Ministry of Health and WHO in
the design, presentation, and evaluation of research and
epidemiologic studies intended to impact vaccine preventable
diseases in the public health community. Prepares technical
and scientific reports from information collected for publication
and develops recommendations for utilizing lessons learned in the
most effective manner. Provides assistance in the development,
design, and evaluation of operational research and demonstration
projects intended to determine the most efficient and cost-effective
methods of improving surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases.
Serves on expert advisory committees of various national and
international organizations on issues regarding the epidemiology and
surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of
study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's
or higher degree with major study in an academic field relating to
the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of
the position.
In addition to the above education requirements, applicants must
have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level
for the GS-13 position and at the GS-13 level for the GS-14 position.
Specialized experience is that which is directly related to the
position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular
knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties
of the position, to include experience providing consultation and
scientific and technical advice to health related agencies and
organizations on the planning, implementation and evaluation
activities for the surveillance, control and eradication of vaccine
preventable diseases.
