Position Description
The Manager works with the Director of Communications and Marketing to develop and implement EngenderHealth’s communications strategy to increase the organization’s visibility and awareness among its public and professional constituencies, and support its fundraising and program/business development goals. Specifically, the Manager will handle public relations/media strategy and outreach, oversee the development of corporate communications and marketing materials, and assist in strategic planning. The Manager supports EngenderHealth staff and the Board in communications and marketing activities to enhance the visibility of EngenderHealth.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Implement and manage communications and
marketing campaigns that support the overall communications strategy as
developed in concert with the Director of Communications and Marketing.
- Manage
media relations and handle media requests to promote a strong positive
public image and recognition of EngenderHealth and its spokespersons.
Activities related to this function include day-to-day contact with the
organization’s public relations firm, responding to media inquiries,
and managing media lists.
- Develop communications
strategies and coordinate with team members and staff to ensure
consistent messaging across all electronic and print communications.
- Mobilize
and collaborate with the Communications and Marketing Team to ensure
the successful development and production of high quality and timely
communications and marketing materials. These include: annual reports,
print and electronic newsletters, brochures and collateral materials
for marketing and fundraising, CDs, press releases, and
speeches/presentations.
- Develop dissemination
strategies for communications materials and support Development and
Policy/Advocacy efforts by managing outreach activities/campaigns that
promote EngenderHealth.
- Support the
communications and marketing needs of country and global programs,
including developing strategy, building skills, and producing
collateral materials.
- Lead efforts to develop
and institutionalize standard operating policies and procedures related
to communications & marketing to ensure efficient and effective
collaboration with staff, and support the organization’s publicity
goals.
- Assist in the development of annual workplans and budgets.
- Supervise the Communications Writer and Communications Assistant.
- Act on behalf of Director of Communications and Marketing in her absence.
- Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications
Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Demonstrated experience and success working with media, including conducting outreach to print, broadcast and online media.
- A
record of developing, writing, and producing effective communications
materials through print, broadcast, and electronic media.
- Managerial
experience: strategic planning, budget development and management,
supervision, partnering and teamwork skills, and problem solving.
- Significant
experience and/or demonstrated interest in the non-profit sector,
reproductive health, women’s rights, or international development.
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience, in communications, public/media relations, or journalism.
- Ten years professional experience with minimum 5 years working in communications and as a manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Superb communications skills; write and edit communications materials in a timely manner; and make oral presentations.
- A
self-starter with good judgment, the ability to work in a fast-paced,
creative environment, and adapt quickly to changing needs and
priorities.
- Ability to successfully represent the agency to its external audiences in a variety of settings.
- Ability to develop and implement communications and marketing strategies.
- Willingness and the ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Passionate about EngenderHealth’s mission.
