Google.org Communications Manager
Posted: Thu, 09/08/2007 - 4:24pm
The area: Google.org
Google.org Google's reach spans the globe, yet our hope is that by aggressively applying our resources to address the world's most significant social problems, Google.org will one day surpass the parent company's worldwide influence. We have a deep passion to find innovative solutions and entrepreneurial approaches to issues such as climate change, economic development, and global health. Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, encompasses the Google Foundation, Google resources to address specific company projects, and the development of partnerships and contributions to for-profit and non-profit entities.
The role: Google.org Communications Manager
Google.org is searching for talented, creative communicators with strong writing skills, intellectual energy and an ability to think on their feet. We are looking beyond the traditional world of public relations - though we'll happily consider the bored and best - to find people with a passion for climate change, economic development, and global health who want to expand their horizons and do good at the same time.
Are you an ace writer and editor who is motivated by the chance to advocate on behalf of these issues? Do you frequent the blogosphere and enjoy using technology to enhance communications? Do you wake up each morning brimming with ideas on how to increase media attention to neglected solutions for health, development and global warming? Have you designed and led high-profile communications efforts? Well then you may have found your match working with Google.org.
People in search of predictability and hierarchy should stop reading right now. Our team values creativity, initiative and curiosity. We want candidates who want to learn, who are unafraid to voice strong opinions, and whose instinct is to challenge the conventional wisdom (with better ideas). Successful candidates will have at least four years professional experience and excellent academic credentials. They will possess strong critical thinking skills and demonstrate superior written and verbal communication abilities. They will thrive in a collaborative, at times chaotic environment, and enjoy working with content experts to draft and edit messaging. Most importantly, they will laugh in the face of danger and then get to work before we all get into deeper trouble.
Google.org is a fast-paced, start-up environment. The Google.org communications team manages high-profile communications efforts and advocates on behalf of issues. Our audiences include Google.org's grantees, partners, governments, thought leaders and decision makers in developed and developing countries, critics and friends from around the world, as well as internal communications with the broader community of Googlers. The communication manager reports to the Head of Advocacy and Communications for Google.org.
